Journal Entry Title: Chronological Order

Even though the living things disappeared from the world, time still flies by, waiting for new life to occur. The house in this story may not have any residents living there, but the time and the features of the automatic house keeps moving. The house moves automatically with its scheduled time. As the machines in the house move as their schedule told them to, the time passes by in a chronological order. Nothing can be out of place since it is so orderly. Nothing can be mistaken when everything is controlled with computers. But unexpected events may lead to massive destruction. Just like this house in the story, the fall of the tree was an unexpected events, which lead to the collision of parts of the house. The computer never knows and never learnt to deal with this problem, because it was unexpected. Only preventing it from burning down the house wan't be good enough, the house may not repair itself. As the time goes by, the house wouldn't learn anything from its mistake, the house will collapse entirely. It is just the amount of time. Even though no one is there to see this happen, the house will work the same way it does, the same way it did before everyone left.

Journal Entry 34 Title: Irony

This story described a comfortable place for human to live in, a place that is orderly and organizes people's life. This house the story told us, was only one small part of the world. The war may not start from this comfortable place, the war may start in a dilapidated, abandoned poverty. The whole world may not be as comfortable and pressure-less like this house. Maybe only rich people were able to live in such houses. There are always reasons for people, countries, parties or religious groups to start meaningless wars. People on this planet never stop fighting, fighting for power, honor, money and for other people. But war can’t really stop anything, it can even cause more unwanted events. War is meaningful, maybe you think you are fighting for a reason, but at the same time, each people you kill may have his or her own dreams. The success that occurs for winning a war is the same as making your dream come true by killing other people’s dream. There is always a way to compromise with other people. Instead of killing each other, think of way to make this world better. Some people think that sacrifices are necessary for peace and freedom to come to people’s life. But that may not always be true. A lot of long lasting and stable peace comes from compromising.

Journal Entry 33 Title: Thankful

I'm thankful for being a citizen in Hsinchu, even though it might be better being citizen of other places, but I'm satisfied with what I have now. I love my country, because it is full of educated Asians (I'm not kidding, I really enjoy and am proud of being Asian). I'm thankful for being on the Yellow Team for sports day. Yellow Team is definitely winning this year, I'm sure. I'm thankful for being in the Class of 2015, for meeting all these good friends. Hopefully the world wouldn't end before I graduated. I'm thankful for going to this school, instead of some local school that I really dislike. I'm thankful for having food that we can enjoy in this world. If there is no food, I bet a lot of people will give up on their life sooner, because eating helps human release pain. I'm thankful for getting a chance to go to Japan this Christmas Break for snow skiing. I really look forward to the trip since I never get to touch snow before. I'm thankful that I got stung by a bee over the summer, and I now know what to do after I got stung. I'm thankful that I think I am an alien, so that I can look at this world in a different way.

Journal Entry 31 Title: New Technology

Technology is developing and changing everyday. Things changes fast on this planet, Earth. New knowledges are discovered and help developing the technology in our lives. Lots of ideas we see as common sense now, was a myth or was wrong for people living centuries ago. Just like science, new knowledges are found everyday in our lives. The knowledges, informations we see on the internet is refreshing every second. The world is changing, in a really, really fast way. Now in the presents, if you want to go somewhere far, you can just get on an airplane and fly there. During the time of the Roman Empires, airplane, or a flying metal bird is impossible and sounded ridiculous, but guess what? There are airplanes flying back and forth everywhere, every hour in our lives. Many things may seem ridiculous then, but it can be so common looking now. If they always believed things like airplane are impossible, then we wouldn't make it to the 21st-century, such a wonderful time with all the technologies that help our life be easier. Now we might say, living on Mars is absolutely impossible, but maybe few centuries later, people will be living on Mars or other planets. If we don't believe in these crazy ideas, human might extinct from Earth!!

Setting as Character

A setting can be a kind of character, even though it may not have emotions or we don’t know what it is thinking about, they can still have movements that cause events to happen. Usually characters cause conflict with other characters or even themselves. But can setting have conflicts with the characters or itself? Of course! The natural world may cause problems for the characters or itself. The natural world maybe the best kind of situation when the setting can be characterized. The natural world can be unpredictable and sometimes not caused by the other characters. There is always action then reaction, it is the basic for any events to happen. For example, the ocean is really unpredictable since it is liquid, it causes lots of problem, which is the action of the setting. The sailors or anyone sailing on the ocean will have reaction about the action. Maybe in a forest, a natural fire started, all the characters that is related to the forest will have reactions on the natural fire which is the action in this event. All kind of situation can allow the setting to become a character. Sometimes stories are made with only setting as the character, then the story can describe the setting real well.

Journal Entry 29 Title: Compare and Contrast Dogs

There were two dogs in our building. It was years ago, the dogs were named Shin-Shin and Happy. They are both shiba, but Shin-Shin was black with a white tummy and Happy was pure white. They were both hyper puppies and eats a lot. They weren't my dog, they were my neighbor's dogs. I was allowed to visit them often and was able to play with Shin-Shin and Happy. Even though they were both hyper, Happy was really energetic for only sometimes and Shin-Shin can be hyper for a long, long time but not as hyper as Happy. Shin-Shin is tricky, he likes to hide Happy's snack under sofas and drawers. Maybe that is because  Happy never remembers where Shin-Shin would hide them even though he only hides it in certain places. It's always fun to watch Happy search for her precious snack. They also like different snacks, Happy loves milk cookie, it is made of hard cookie tied into a bone shape, for dogs to chew on. Shin-Shin don't like snacks, he just want to eat his meals for a long time. That's why Shin-Shin is skinnier than Happy. Happy is a dumb dog, but I like her a lot, maybe because she's dumb. :D

Describe a Place You Know

My favorite place in the all the places I’ve been to, was the corner of my bedroom. It’s a cozy and quite place for me, myself and I. The place that I would be no matter what mood I‘m in. This corner is suitable and comfortable, the pillows I set on the floor makes the whole place cozy. The smell of my dinner is usually trapped in that corner of my room, I am allowed to have dinner in my corner sometimes. My computer and comic books are also placed o the sides of the corner. It’s convenient for me to live my life in the corner. I fell safe when my right shoulder touched the end of my bed. When I rest in my corner, it fells like there is only myself in this hectic world. I am able to leave everything in reality behind, and can be in my own world. The wooden bookshelf on the left side of me, hold all my precious books and comics, that’s also the place I usually place my dinner. My radio is usually placed beside my left leg if no one moved my property around. The computer is placed right in front of me, so that I could research and do other work on it. I placed most of my life in that little corner. It might seem weird, but I like it being weird.

Setting

Once when I’m still in elementary school, our family went to a restaurant with some of our friends. The meal came late so all the kids went playing hide and seek. I was too naive to believe in Benson, he told me he knows a better place to hide than behind the door. I walked beside him with my eyes closed, like what I was told to do. We walked for a long, long time and finally we stopped. I stood there with my eyes closed until he said I’m allowed to open them. When I opened my eyes, a blue door stood in front of me and I back up so I could look at the whole thing. As I back up, I hit a toilette that was behind me all the the way. I tried to open the door while I realized it was the male’s restroom(because the door is blue). I was scared, because I realized that the door wouldn’t open. I panicked and wait for people to rescue me. The smell of excrement made me feel like puking, and the sound of flushing made me want to pee. I waited and waited, until I forgot what had happened. When I woke up, I saw Benson standing in front of me, helping me get up. I threw everything out off my head and did one thing, a sucker punch on Benson’s head. After that, I wasn’t afraid to go to a men’s rest room, even though I don’t really need to have that skill.

What I Like About This Class

I like most of the things in this class. This is my second favorite subject in the four major subject, which is math, English, Science and History. The class system is very organized, because it is mostly using internet. Informations are easily given out to student and they can’t really loose it. Paper work can get lost or easily ruined, but using the internet can save the files and not easy to destroy. The homework system is very organized, the date are clearly informed on the Wiki pages. I like having homework due on the same date. It is easier for students to remember the due date. Also the homework given out are all in the same format, so it would be easy to understand after a while. Even if we have any question, usually I can just check the Wiki Pages. Wiki pages is a very good way to organize school work, students are able to use it anywhere that has a computer. I also like having a weekly Greek or Latin roots quiz. It helped me memorize a lot of word jus by looking at the roots. This class is very organized and I’ve learned a lot about formatting essay from the past 8 weeks.

What I Don't Like About This Class

I like most of the things in this class. The class system is pretty organized, because it is mostly using internet. Even though problems on using computer and internet can occur a lot, it is still a better way than using paper. Paper work can get lost or easily ruined, but using the internet can save the files and not easy to destroy. Formatting  became important for work on computer, which students might get confused with. Technical issues are often on internet work, sometimes the internet or the computer shuts down itself and you weren’t able to save your files. I like having homework due on the same date and having a weekly Greek or Latin roots quiz. This class is really organized and I enjoy it. Only sometimes the teacher make jokes on students. If the student beside wasn’t really happy about getting teased, she/he might look like she/he’s going to kill you. And I definitely DON’T want to sit beside someone like that. Especially when I’m the only Taiwanese sitting in the middle of to got-teased-Canadian. Canadians aren’t bad, but sometime girls don’t like jokes. I can take jokes, but that’s because I’m not sensitive enough. But other girls have lower EQ these ages, so they wouldn’t want anyone to make jokes on them.

Frietchie VS Jackson

Frietchie and Jackson are two different kind of people, but they shared the same value of being brave. They are supporting different sides during the Civil War, Frietchie on the Union side, and Jackson on the Confederates side. They may support different idea, but they are both brave people that is loyal to their own side. Frietchie want the country to stay together like it was, but Jackson wanted the his country to allow slavery, and also exclude high taxes on the souther sides. They wanted the country to be equal, Friechie wanted men to treat men equally, and Jackson also wanted the government to treat the Confederates rightly. The are thinking about the same idea but about different things. Friechie was old, and gray headed, but she can still stand up for her believes and be brave. Even in the poem, Jasckson was on the wrong side, he still commanded not to shoot the flag and Friechie. Jackson don’t want to hurt any old woman, and he admired the bravery of Frietchie when she shouted at the Confederates soldiers. Friechie was old, but her mind  was clear, clearer than the Confederates. She knows what is right, what’s wrong. Jackson knew the separation of the country isn’t as great, but he knew that’s their, the southerners’ only way to survive.

Do the Right Thing

You should never talk to strangers. Strangers may seem friendly or scary, but some of them may be thinking about kidnapping you or taking valuable thing from you. People that seemed friendly may hurt you, instead of those mean looking strangers, most of them don’t care about you. Strangers that tried to come near to you can be the evil people that would trick you. All people, especially female and kids, The are the easiest target for bad guys. Female and kids are easy to trick and they can hardly do any fightback. Kids are the major target for kidnaps, they are easy to carry away and the parents would do anything to make sure they are safe. Other crimes are easier to be done on children and people that can hardly do anything about it. You should be extra careful when you walk on streets, you shouldn’t walk into tiny streets where less people are, and you should not ride in a taxi alone if you are underage. People get kidnaped, killed, harassed,  stole from and tricked in all kinds of ways everyday.  Not just people, sometimes dogs are kidnapped and their owners will have to buy them back, but that doesn’t happen as often as the others mentioned.

Standing Up for Your Beliefs

Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest people in the world that stood up for his believes. He was the president of the United States and was against slavery during the Civil War time. He stood up for his belief “All man are born equal.” He was strongly against slavery even though he knew the country couldn’t hold together if he star the war. He thinks it’s wrong for people to force on other people and hurt them purposely. It’s his belief that hurting other human being for no reason is injustice and is not right. I believe in “otaku.” Otaku are people that stays home most of the time and didn’t really like the outside world. They live in their own world, but actually they’ve constructed a beautiful world called “internet.” Some websites may be created by people that was paid to do it, but otaku makes the internet more beautiful, fun and interesting. When they make these websites in this world it attracts more people to turn into otaku. That’s how this belief spread so fast and so into human’s brain. Not just the internet, video games, anime and applications for different computers can hold kids, teenagers or sometimes even adults in their home. It may not be healthy, but online game can really make people go crazy. It’s hard for people to not go on Facebook now, it may be harder then quit drinking!!

Cinderella Story

The Cinderella is an familiar and famous story to the whole world. It’s a really touching story mostly because some people can relate to the stories.  The Cinderella story is a story about a young girl force to live with an evil step-mother, and two step-sister that treats her like a servant.  She was the only child before her dad get remarried. She was living happily with her dad when all of a sudden, three unfamiliar women appeared and could ruin her life. She struggled and wanted the life she used to have, however she was able to move on and looked for other dreams. She wanted to go to a ball where she could meet the handsome prince. She wanted to go to the ball but she wasn’t allowed, the moment she was about to give up, the fairy godmother came to help her. She was able to go to the ball before 12:00 AM. She ran back and left her one of her pair of shoe at the castle. The prince found the owner of the shoe, Cinderella, and married her. Now, Cinderella became the princess. She went from the lowest in her family and gradually became one of the most powerful people in their country. I was just like her the time I went to a new art class, all the students there can draw beautifully for 10 years old kids. I was in the 14th or 15th place when i first went there. I wasn’t noticed by other students and they never wanted to talk to me. One day, after all the classes before, I was in the first place. It was all magical, and stuff, I never knew I could beat the other students. After that i never got lower than the fifth place.

Hero Biography

My mother is a hero to me. All I had learnt about life are mostly taught by her. She is the one that had influenced my life the most. My mother influenced my life in a good way, she taught me things I might never think about learning, like being more girly. Even though I didn’t enjoy doing that, I tried my best in listening to her and had succeeded in being a normal teenage girl(not). She loves me the way she always did even when i became so weird and tomboy-like, she still loves me.
My mother, Anny Peng was born on June 1, 1963 in Taipei. She’s not Taiwanese, she is Chinese, because both of her parents, my grandparents are both Chinese. Even though my mother is Chinese, she never went to main land China before. She is born and raised in Taiwan and haven’t left this country before the age of 28. She has 5 other siblings and 4 of them are girls. My uncle is the only son in the family. She took care of all her siblings while educating with small amount of resource. She graduated from National Taiwan University, the best college in Taiwan. She was my hero, because she had inferred so many great ideas and thinkings to me that had changed me. If she had never supported me the way she did, I might not be able to be here right now like this.

What is a Hero

What is a hero? The types of heroes share common characteristics which suggest much about how we see ourselves, determine our goals, and view our passage through life. A hero must stay to the heroic role, including suffering danger or even making a painful choice. Heroes may not always be athletes or strong people, but people that can help society. Hero can also be people that gives good ideas to society and help development of society. A hero may not have to be someone that saves the world or anything, they just have to be helpful to the society. A hero can help the growth of a society in different ways, they can protect a society or infer source and information to help. Heroism is shown when a man/woman thinks for other people and showed it in action to help. When people devoted themselves to other things, that is heroism. Superman and Batman are both heroes, but why? They've both devoted themselves to their society and had risked their lives. All kinds of heroes, doesn't matter if they are fictional or real, they all devoted themselves to other people. In the movie "Constantine," when John said to Lucifer, he wanted Isabel to go to heaven and would let him take his life away, he showed his heroism to Isabel. Also because he did that, God knew that he sacrificed, to help other person, god forgave him and allowed him to go to heaven as well.

Leaving Everything Behind

Something suddenly happens, and someone was required to leave all of their old life behind and star of something mew. It takes such a long time for a human being to have grown bond to something that had been there so long with them. The thing that had been there maybe good or bad memories, can be advantages or disadvantages. But whatever it is, it’s still parts of the men. It can be so painful, so hard for someone to just leave something behind, especially when it might be something great, like good memories with friends. When someone is forced to leave people they’ve loved, it can be hurting, and inhumanly. Some parents were forced by the government to leave their children, because the they think those parents didn’t have ability to raise them properly. The government may think about the safety for those kids or they were trying to help them, but they never actually thought about what kind difference will it make to the kids, people changes over time according to events happening around them. It can be difficult for people to just leave something behind. When i was told that my favorite comic’s author, Katsura Hoshino was sick and would be missing from her column for a while, I just collapsed mentally for days, or even weeks. I couldn’t believe how I live through that period, i was nervous when ever he had a surgery. I was a fan that had grew bond to the drawings and stories so much I collapsed. I loved the comic he drew so much I couldn’t believe it if he died, he couldn’t! I mean, there is so many other people all over the world that loved this comic we could die for it. I thought before, if this comic don’t go on, i might as well not, too. I’ve grew bond to it, it’s one of the main things I lived for. If someone told me that I need to live my life without these comic book, I might as well not live my life. It’s not me without them.

The Promised Land

Harriet promised the enslaved African Americans to lead them to the promise, Canada. A land where there is no segregation to the coloured people and where people live equally. Just like Moses, he promised his people to lead them to the promised land in their stories. They had work hard to find the land and live there with peace. They both promised their people to lead them to a better place for them to live in. They are both leaders leading a segregated, or treated with injustice group of people. They’ve all fought fought injustice when they could have better life. They weren’t treated with injustice, they were living the life lots of people their kind admired. They left their fortunate life and helped more than anyone could help them. They hated injustice maybe even more than the people treated with injustice. They were also brave and willing to risk their life for other people. The wanted live in a world that has no segregation. They never tried to revenge, they only wanted to live a life, a life they could enjoy.

Why Risk Your Life

Harriet Tubman wasn't a slave during the time, she was a freeman that is willing to risk her life to lead people toward freedom. She was brave and full of justice to do such things. Harriet is now one of the most famous African American woman in the United States or even to the whole wide world. Her thinking was greater than any other people that I've met, her thinking was full of courage and risky. She knew that she would be waiting for death if she was found by the police her actions, but she did it anyways to help those enslaved people. She knows the pain being enslaved, so she didn't want it to happen to other people. She disliked injustice maybe even more than the people enslaved. She risked her life helping these people and didn't want any payback.
I have never seen anyone that would risk their life for injustice. People now usually cares only about themselves and less about being injustice to other people. Like my brother, he only cares about himself and never cares about what other people feel or think about him.

For the Sake of Freedom

Over thousands of years, people all over the world had been fighting for freedom. Whether the Israelites, Jewish, Africans or Asian people had been fighting all over the world for freedom. It's not just the people suffering because of slavery and such, also the other people are fighting, helping the people to gang rights. All men are born equal was their thinking, so no one can have more power over someone else, no one can force someone to do things against their rights. African American had been the most famous example, they have been slavery over hundreds of years. They had fought in the while the white Americans consider them worse than animals. They fought and won the war with help of president Lincoln. The Israelites had fought for their freedom when they were captured in Egypt. They've also won, because they wanted freedom more than anything in the world.

What Happens

No one escaped from the Landlady before, therefore Billy can't be the smartest one to escape. He could't be the ONLY one that had escaped from her. Besides, if he escaped, he'll be dead soon, because the tea was poisoned with the "bitter almond taste." If Billy escaped and then die on the streets, the Landlady could just go out and collect his body. The other two gentlemen will be upstairs in the preserved collections waiting for more gentlemen to join their group. Billy may not even realize what he had gotten into, he might still be drinking tea and touching those stuffed little pets. Billy was really too naive to drink tea that's prepared by a woman that stuffs her little pets after they've passed away.

Thursday, 30 September 2010

Stuffed Pets

When Billy saw the stuffed pets and as the narrator told us about it, it had became a big hint what might happen to Billy. The landlady said she always stuff her little pets whenever they passes away. What might she do when a handsome gentleman her beautiful house had attracted had passed away? Stuff him or them, too? Maybe. It's seriously NOT normal for any human to stuff their pet animal anytime, whether they are alive or dead! Billy might be one of the Landlady's "stuffed gentlemen" before he could leave.
This kind of writing of hinting the future of the story is "foreshadowing." This kind of writing is usually used in horror stories, because it can builds up suspense. Suspense makes the stories more enthusiastic.

The Landlady's Perfect Guest

The Landlady's idea of a perfect guest are young, polite gentlemen. She sounded as though she could predict the people coming to her boarding house. Her boarding house only attract handsome young men like Billy. Maybe she is going to kidnap the people that went there or even worse, she might kill them. Then do experiment or inappropriate things to it. The prize of the rooms are way too good to be true. Which is an other way to attract customers. Billy was a really naive guy that didn't thought about all the unusually things about the house and the Landlady and got himself into the mess.

The Landlady- Predictions

When Billy looked at the sigh of "Bed and Breakfast," I thought something is going wrong. It's quite impossible to have such a decent looking house besides all the other dilapidated and poor houses. Even when Billy is thinking about going to the pub, but still approaching toward the house, that was really weird. It's the kind of magical force grabbing Billy's attention and controlling his mind and body that was weird. When Billy went in there, a woman stood right there WAITING for him to arrive. Sounding like she already know about him and is certain that he will be arriving the time she stood there. Everything was so magical in a creepy way that people shouldn't like. But they still like it, because it is MAGICAL.

Bed and Breakfast

I saw a vase with yellow flowers, a green curtain hanging on the other side of the window. I moved my sight to the sign hanging on the top of the cafe looking house, it said "Bed and Breakfast." I skipped toward the window, as a man walking happily pass me, hoping to get more information about the place. I saw a bar and five or more tables there. There're more identical green curtain on the other window, but was tied to the side so it wouldn't fall and block the sight of the outside. There were about eight people in the place, five were sitting in front of the bar using up all the sits there, the other three were sitting at all three different table. No one were  talking except for the two girls sitting on the right side of the bar. They were giggling about things men don't understand. The waitress were cleaning up the table where no one sits. A half eaten ham sandwich were sitting there lonely without its other half, waiting to be picked up by the waitress. It was left by the man that went pass me as i moved toward the window.

“Broken Chain,” Thinking Critically

I don't think Alfonso's reaction is a like to mine, which means that  I don't think the way Alfonso thinks. He is more of a shy person, if i were a boy, i would never be shy like that. I would go out there and tell Sandra the truth and my situation, then hope that she'll understand it.. I wouldn't care if Sandra wouldn't like me after that date. There's so many other girl out there, better than Sandra. You can have a better future if you find some girl that wouldn't hate you for not having bike and don't want to understand other people's situation. Sometimes you can just see what kind of person you are dealing with considering the situation. I don't think Alfonso thinks a lot, he needs to use his brain more. Even if Sandra fall in love with him after that date, is he really going to stay by her side your whole life. It's just his first date, take it easy.

Advice Letter

Dear adviser,   My name is Alfonso. I wanted to ask you about my problem, what should I do if my older brother wouldn't borrow me his bike or any other stuff that belongs to him? I made good deals with him so that i can borrow his bike, but he refused to lend me it, and it's not even a nice looking one. I need two bikes so that me and Sandra(a girl i met and is going out with me on a bicycle ride) can hangout and have our first date. I did all I can do and think of just to let him lend me a rusty, not-as-good-as-mine bike. I offered him my trick-or-treat candies and he still refused because he said he don't want me to go out with Sandra. What did he have to do with this, what a bossy, evil brother. I can't stand him for not even caring about his only little brother, can't he just let me have a great time with my friend?? I really don't know what to do about this, I'm just asking for a little favor and even offered him all the candy I have and he still refused.

Broken Chain - Thinking Critically

In the story Alfonso is a shy teenager that tried to impress a girl on his first date. In some ways his action is somehow similar to other boys/girls on their first date. In another words, all teenagers want to have a perfect school life. Alfonso is a shy boy but he still want to look good on his first date and maybe even start an relationship. Same for girls, they may also be shy but they all want to be gorgeous on their first date, they definitely  want to have a boy friend, too. In the story Alfonso didn't have a function-able bicycle for him to ride around on, and his brother didn't really want to borrow Alfonso his. Finally Alfonso's bicycle finally collapsed, what Alfonso really want in that moment is a fully functioned bicycle, and I bet a lot of kids have the same dream similar to that (like me).

Popularity vs. Intelligence

Popularity is one major thing teenager wants in their life, but there's also people sacrifice time with friends for their school. Being popular is just like living in heaven. If you are one of the most popular people you may not have to worry about homework, because someone will do it for you to please you. They think of that idea to please you because they know all popular people sacrifice study time to hangout with his/her friends. There's also another problem about being popular, when you are popular you need to be afraid of loosing the popularity/friends.
Having intelligence is such a good thing, all kind of homework is a piece of cake to you. Your family and some teachers in school are very, very proud of you. They always say you can go to a great college and have a beautiful life. At the same time you wanted to have more time with your friends but you don't want to waste time just hanging around. maybe you keep up your high score or even improved but you might be loosing some friendship at the same time.
I rather have intelligence in my life, more than popularity. Maybe I didn't enjoy my teen-hood as much as other people, at least i can meet greater people in the rest of my life if i work hard enough now. Lots of popular people end up not so popular the rest of there lives.

What 13 or 14 years-old kids think about themselves

Most 13 and 14 years-old kids think their appearances are more important than their insides. Kids like them do whatever it takes to get into the popular group. These kids just want to have a perfect teen-hood and date the cool guys and cool girls. Guys in that age often think having girlfriend is a kind of way to show off. That's why the kid in "Broken Chain" wants to have his first date perfect, it's not just because he liked the girl but he also wants to be popular.
